TILTED STEEPLE is an up-to-the-minute musical drama set against one of the most controversial issues of our time. It tells the story of what happens to a devout church-going family when one of the family members turns out to be gay.
Herbert Willington is a leading church member. He has been instrumental in keeping the business end of the church going, and is looked to for leadership when ends do not quite meet. He is considered an essential pillar of his parish.
He also has strong ideas about what are proper types and what are not proper types for church members. With him, homosexuals rank right up there at the top of his "improper list."
So it is a blow of catastrophic proportions that hits him when one of his
own family turns out to be gay.
The issue has now become personal, and his family, whose members exhibit differing
attitudes about this, is in real danger of falling apart.
Scripture tells us that "a child shall lead them", and a child does lead this stricken family into accepting one another on the basis of deeper values.
"Tilted Steeple" can be staged with fifteen actors, but chorus
members can be added to swell the ranks of the church-goers. It has been successfully
produced with minimal settings, but can be presented with fully rendered sets
if desired. As in all effective musicals, the story is essentially told through
the music.
Large Cast.
